SALSA (CASINO & RUEDA) -  Cuban style Salsa is the style that is most like the Salsa done in Cuba, where the dance has its roots. Cuban style dancers don't tend to do fast, multiple spins. In addition, the movement of the partners in this style tends to be circular as opposed to linear. When Cuban moves are danced by one couple on the dance floor, that is referred to as Cuban Style.  If those moves are done by a group in a circle, that is referred to as Rueda de Casino.

BACHATA - Bachata is a romantic latin dance with origins from the Dominican Republic, which is now danced all over the world.  Unlike salsa, bachata dance does not usually include many turn patterns. The original, slow style in the '60s was danced only in closed position, like the bolero, often in close embrace. The bachata basic steps is done by moving within a small square (side, side, forward and side, side, back) and is inspired from the bolero step but evolved to including a tap and also syncopation (steps in between the beats) depending on the dynamics of the music being played. The hand placement can vary according to the position of the dances, which can range from very close to open to completely open.

MERENGUE - the Merengue is a popular dance of Haiti and the Dominican Republic and is a truly lively Latin dance. There is an old tale about a very brave and famous military officer who was wounded in battle and developed a limp. A celebration dance was given for the great hero returning from the war. Rather than embarrass their hero, who limped on his wounded leg while dancing, all the men present favored their leg as well, & thus the Merengue was born.

KIZOMBA - Kizomba is one of the most popular genres of dance originating in Angola. Unlike semba, kizomba music is characterized by a slower and usually very romantic rhythm. Kizomba music was born in late-1970s Africa. On this basis, kizomba music emerged as a more modern music genre with a sensual touch mixed with African rhythm and Haitian Kompa.

SALSA L.A. - Salsa Los Angeles. This style is fast, sharp, and eye-catching.  It often includes what Salsa dancers call "tricks" (i.e. acrobatics).  In addition, L. A. dancers do a lot of their movements linearly, staying in a "slot."  L. A. style is generally danced "on 1" which means you change direction in the basic step on beat 1.  Here is a video clip of some top notch dancers doing LA style salsa

REGGAETON - Reggaetón is a genre of music originating from Puerto Rico during the late 1990s. It draws influence from hip hop as well as musical genres across Latin America and the Carribean.

CHA CHA CHA - An exciting, syncopated, Latin dance, the Cha Cha gathers its personality, character, rhythm, basis, and charm from two major dance sources. It is a derivation of the Mambo through its Latin music, and it is also a stepchild of the Swing, as it is danced to a 1-2-3 step rhythm. The Cha Cha gets its name and character from its distinct repetitive foot rhythm

CUMBIA - Cumbia  is a dance-oriented music genre popular throughout Latin America. It began as a courtship dance practiced among the African population on the Caribbean coasts of Colombia and Panama. It later mixed with Amerindian and European instruments, steps and musical characteristics and spread throughout Latin America and abroad While other genres of Latin American music have remained associated with specific countries or regions, cumbia has grown to be one of the most widespread and unifying musical genres to emerge from Latin America.

ZOUK - a style of dance music that originated in Guadeloupe and Martinique, featuring Caribbean rhythms. A style of dance music that combines African and Latin American rhythms and uses electronic instruments and modern  technology

BACHATANGO - Bachatango (often classed as a sensual form of modern bachata) is a style of dance that fuses the four-step Dominican bachata with Argentine tango moves, including elaborated kicks, dips, turns, ganchos, leg wraps and long pauses. The dance is characterized by sensual hip and body movements.

EAST COAST SWING - This dance is frequently referred to as Triple Step swing due to the rhythm of the basic triple step. This dance consists of six and eight count patterns, which require a rock step back by both man and woman to begin. It is a circular dance that is danced with a bounce and is very grounded and not high in the legs. This bounce requires the dancer to stay very smooth and not jump around much. East Coast swing is the base for all swing dances.

Zumba - an aerobic fitness program featuring movements inspired by various styles of Latin American dance and performed primarily to Latin American dance music.
